The bandwidth of fiber optic cables is greater than that of metal cables. This indicates that the cable is capable of carrying more data than other cables. The signal is less likely to be damaged by fiber optic cables. In comparison to other wires, fiber optic cables are thin and light.

Fiber optic cables are used in Ethernet technology in two different ways:

  • Single-mode fiber: Single-mode fiber optic cables only transmit one data ray at a time.
